Frequently Asked Questions About Roof Replacements
What is involved in a Roof Replacement?
A full Roof Replacement involves stripping the old shingles from the roof, exposing the roof deck. Then an underlayment is then applied to the roof deck to help protect it from water intrusion. The new shingles are then installed on top of the underlayment for a new roof that can last for 20 years or more.
If the deck is damaged enough to compromise the inside of the home, it will need to be repaired before installing the underlayment and shingles to prevent further damage.
How Long Does It Take To Replace A Roof?
It depends on the weather and the complexity of the job. But in general, an average home [3000 square feet or less] can be replaced in a day.
What Does ReRoofing Involve?
ReRoofing skips the step of stripping the old shingles from the roof and instead installing new shingles over the worn shingles. As long as you only have one layer of shingles on your roof, re-roofing can be beneficial and cheaper. South Carolina building codes prohibits the installation of a third layer of shingles on a home that already has two layers of shingles. In this case a full roof replacement will be needed.
